K-WAL
The first album from multimedia artist K-Wal, released in 2018 when he was a freshman in high school. “You definitely don’t have to be a high schooler to relate to these songs,” K-Wal says reflecting on the LP. “I think a good song is universally affecting, and these songs were written to be such. ‘Man Down’ and ‘Fish in the Sea’ make sense to anyone. ‘Dragons,’ at the other end of the emotional spectrum, is more relatable to me now than when I wrote it. I’m so proud of this album and excited for people to discover it on streaming.”
MIDNIGHT DRIVE
K-Wal’s second album released in 2020, recorded mostly during quarantine. “I’d assembled K-Wal in a year, so I thought I’d finish its follow-up in around the same time. I ended up pursuing other art projects after K-Wal, and new music wasn’t flowing anyway. I had ‘Bro Up’ and ‘Mine,’ but they weren’t really connected.
“‘Amber’ was the key to the album. I started that in winter 2019 and saw pretty quickly that it established the narrative and themes of the album. I realized that where I’d gone in ‘Amber’ is where I wanted to remain for the album. That’s the space I was in.”
